Dining Room

This is our dining room. Notice I didn't even PRETEND to TRY to pick up for the pictures. We keeps it real 'round here.

This is my new dry bar. I'm pretty sure that it's gray, not black, as I thought in the shop, given that the tag said it was black and the lighting was poor.
I'm also pretty sure that I want to paint it black, but I want to hear what you think, too, Internet. What say you? Also, keep the hardware, or replace with brushed nickel? It's from an antique store, but I don't think it's a real antique, so I'm pretty sure there's no actual monetary value to the current hardware.
Also, cute kid.
The table and chairs are also new. We bought them on craigslist. We're going to resell the table when the Husband finishes the one he made us. The chairs have already been colored on with orange marker. I haven't even bothered to try to wash it out yet. We believe in artistic expression 'round here, too.

So, vote below: to paint or not to paint? That is the first question. Then weigh in on the hardware. Pretty please.

what constitutes a "real" antique?? the lady at the shop got it from an estate sale, and she thought the piece was from the 40s. The fifty year rule makes your piece a technical antique, but you're right about the hardware. it's probably not worth much.

Right again, Ouiser. That's what I get for typing too fast. :)

What I meant was, I don't think it's the kind of antique that has significant monetary value. So I won't feel like I'm damaging the piece by making any alterations. The current color was not the original either. And it's not the sturdiest of construction.

It's not the kind of piece that I would worry that I am compromising the integrity by alteringit. Make sense?

I would paint and add the brushed hardware, but that fits my house more than yours. Since your house is more rustic leaving it as is might fit better. Its great though, I love it!

Great piece. I kind of like the "black" currently. Full-on black may be too stark, too much of a contrast. I just opened the pics in another window [poor memory] but yeah, I like the gray. It allows a color besides the brown of your floors, dining set, and hutch, without being like, whoa, i was just stuck in here. Brushed nickel, i really like, but again, i think the existing hardware makes it blend with your other pieces.

Hmm. If you're motivated, I say paint it black (I see a grey bar and I want to paint it blaaa-aaack!). But, I like the hardware. KEEP!

Also - the cute kid? She's TOTALLY CUTE!
